CHINATOWN RECREATIONAL CENTER
Situated in Chinatown, New York, this adaptive reuse project transforms an existing parking garage into a vibrant, inclusive public space and multipurpose recreational center. The design strategy prioritizes the preservation of the original structural framework while introducing strategic vertical additions and new levels to maximize the building's capacity. To directly address the diverse needs of the surrounding community, the interior is subdivided into tailored programmatic zones—accommodating sports, children's activities, dance, fitness, quiet study halls, and conference rooms. This spatial organization is grounded in a thorough urban analysis of local commuting patterns and public transit networks, ensuring the newly retrofitted facility stands as a highly accessible, deeply integrated civic asset for the neighborhood.
